Frequently Asked Questions

Registration and Fees

How do I register my child for HUSL?

  • Registration for the Fall 2026 Season opened March 1st and ends May 15th, with a late registration period going through May31st. You can register your child online through our website during the open registration period. See our Registration Info page for more information and updates.

Will registration only be online?

  • Yes, all registrations must be done electronically.

What is the cost of registration?

  • For the Fall 2026 season, registration costs $140 per player during the normal  registration period (March 1 - May 15). During the late registration period (May 16 - May 31) registration costs $165 per player.

What do registration costs cover?

  • Registration fees cover uniforms, facilities rental costs, field and equipment maintenance, and referee costs.

Is financial assistance available?

  • Yes, HUSL offers fee waivers for families experiencing financial hardship. During registration, you can check a box to request consideration for a fee waiver. Proof of financial need will be requested after your application is submitted, and full registration fee refunds will be issued upon successful proof of financial hardship. See our HUSL Fee Waiver page for more information and updates.

Can I sponsor my child's team?

  • We’re glad you asked! During the registration process, you'll be asked if you know of an organization, business, or individual who might be interested in sponsoring a HUSL team. Team sponsorships cost $400. Sponsors will have their names on the team jerseys, and will be recognized on signs at the sports complex and through our website and social media. All team sponsorships are tax deductible as contributions to a non-profit organization. Please reach out to possible sponsors before you register! You can also fill out our Sponsorship Interest Form now, to get the process started.

Can I request that my player be put on a team with a specific coach or player?

  • No. Unfortunately, we don't allow these kinds of requests, as they simply make rostering too difficult and risk an unfair advantage for some teams. However, players will be on the team (1) coached by their parent and/or (2) with any siblings that are in the same age group (unless you request that they be on separate teams). Head coaches will be able to request one assistant coach, which includes placement of any associated players onto that coaches team.

Games, Practices, and Locations

Where and when will my child's practices and games be held?

  • All games are held on Saturdays at the Dennis Wallace Memorial Soccer Fields on Locust St, east of the High School and just south of Samaritan Village. Most practices will also be held at this location, though your child's coach will contact you in early-August to provide the practice days, time, and locations.

How do I find the field my player is playing on?

  • Field maps will be available at the concession stand and posted on HUSL’s website. There will be signs posted near the ends of each field with field numbers. Check the game schedule for your player’s team to identify the assigned field.

Weather-Related Modifications

Please see our HUSL Weather Policy for a general overview

What if it rains and/or there is lightning in the area?

  • Rain cancellations are decided on a case-by-case basis. However, when there is lightning activity in the area, games and practices should be suspended immediately until the league determines that conditions are safe to resume play. Watch HUSL's social media for updates.

What are the heat guidelines for practices and games?

  • HUSL follows these heat guidelines:
    • Below 95°F: Normal play allowed.
    • 95°F–100°F: Practices and games are modified with extra water breaks and shortened times.
    • Above 100°F: Practices and games are canceled or significantly shortened.

What are the air quality guidelines for practices and games?

  • HUSL follows these air quality guidelines to ensure player safety:
    • AQI 0–100 (Good to Moderate): Normal play is allowed.
    • AQI 101–150 (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups): Practices and games are modified with reduced intensity and additional water breaks. Parents of children with respiratory issues should use caution.
    • AQI 151+ (Unhealthy or Higher): Practices and games are canceled for the safety of all participants.

Volunteering and Sponsorships

Can I coach my child's team?

  • Yes! All our coaches are volunteers, and we need you. When you register your child, make sure to indicate your willingness to coach in the "Volunteer" section of the registration form.

Do coaches get any special benefits?

  • Yes! Anyone who volunteers and is then assigned to be a head coach will receive one full refund for one of their children ($140). They also have the option to request one assistant coach be assigned to their team, to help insure they have coverage for any practices or games they may need to miss.

Will there be other HUSL Volunteer Opportunities?

Can I sponsor a team or the league?

  • Absolutely! Sponsorship is a great way to support our soccer community. Sponsors receive recognition on team jerseys, banners, and on our website. Visit our sponsorship page  for more details. You can also fill out our sponsorship interest form to express interest now!

Equipment and Facilities

What equipment does my child need?

  • Players need cleats, shin guards, a water bottle, and a soccer ball (see our "Game Rules by Division" page to find the right ball size for your player). HUSL provides team uniforms, including jerseys, shorts, and socks.

What facilities are available at the game site?

  • The game site features a small concession stand offering water, coffee, Gatorade, and various snacks. Come early for the best selection of donuts—they will sell out! HUSL also provides portable restrooms for your convenience.

League Policies and Updates

How are teams organized?

  • There are both boys and girls divisions, split across the following age groupings: 4yo, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-13. The age group cutoff is August 31, to match the Hughson School grade cutoffs. To see the date of birth ranges for each divison for the 2026 season, see our "Rec Soccer Age Groups" page.

When does the season start and end?

  • For 2026, the fall recreation season begins in mid-August with our coaches' orientation day on Saturday, August 15th. Practices will begin the week of August 17th, and the first game will be Saturday August 29th. The final games will be played on Halloween!

What if a practice or game is canceled?

  • Cancellations due to weather or other circumstances are announced via email and/or text, and on our social media pages. Makeup sessions are scheduled whenever possible.
